Helpful for New Managers Looking for a Refresher Course

I have probably fifteen corners rolled down with things I want to remember or quotes that I loved from this book.
Though I found the personal branding chapter pretty basic (I've read quite a few books on the subject), the rest of the book was a great overview and refresher for someone new to managing others, or even just someone wanting to be a better leader, even if you don't have any direct reports.
I'm in the process of doing my first performance review for my first ever direct report, and I'm very new to giving constructive feedback. The "How to Say it" blurb on Giving Negative/Constructive feedback was just what I needed. I love having a few of these phrases in my back pocket to make sure I'm talking about the behavior and not the person.
Though I work in a company with other young people, it was really interesting to read the research about working with Baby Boomers.
Overall, I thought the book was well-written, well-organized, and easy to get through. I would recommend to new managers looking for some training or an overview of best management practices.

I was expecting something unique and distinct from most of what's already out there. The fact that I didn't, i guess, was helpful in understanding the 'new rules for the next generation of leaders' -- they're basically the same rules that we all should be thinking about. If you're looking for breakthrough thinking, this isn't it. On the other hand, if you're looking for a practical guide to the things you ought to be thinking about and doing as you contemplate management, then it's a very good resource.

Lindsey Pollak knows her stuff. She is well-connected and well-informed. Her insight doesn't just come from articles and books she has read, as important as they are. It comes from her personal background and her many interactions with Millenials. Her writing is engaging. This isn't just for Gen Y managers; it has insight from which all managers can benefit.
